Hey Gary,
Just a heads up that the link works on the home page, but nothing is there for the 6v6+3. Thanks
Already on my second listening for all the podcasts so far, great little tidbits of info shared throughout them. Really enjoyed them, hope there are many more to come.
The link was sent in an e-mail. You can search the site with the word “clinic” and it will show up. Maybe Gary will post a link in the near future.
I enjoyed the two sessions as well and am looking forward to the new videos. As always, great stuff!!
For high school we are sometimes limited on space, so it depends. We might just do rondos if we have limited space, but if we have half a field we will usually have our starters work on their possession/positioning. I will have them line up in their starting positions (back 4 near half line) and then we just run some of the set attacking patterns or just free play pinging the ball around and end with a shot on goal. I sometimes throw in a few subs as well for defenders to add a little pressure.
So is this going to be the thread to discuss the World Cup games or should we start a new one?
Lee, an e-mail was sent out with a link. Try this as I don’t have the exact address at work… http://www.coaching.3four3.com/?s=u14+chivas
Liviu, great post with the pic. I sent that to my high school players saying there is a purpose behind all this…
We pretty much do all short corner kicks with our boys high school team. We have about 3 set plays that we rehearse. Even though most teams know we are going to do short corners all game, most of the time it leads to better chances than if we were to just whip it in the box. Plus we’ve really never had guys that are just hungry after the ball in the air. They seem to shy away from headers, so the short corners work for us.
January 12, 2014 at 11:19 am in reply to: Practice session question- what to do with offense when practicing with defense #1486That is what I would say as well. I would make two groups and switch back and forth. That’s what we do during our high school summer sessions. We get a mixed bag of kids showing up and it doesn’t matter if they are defense or offense, I usually have everyone do the same. Like Eric said, this way the attackers better understand what is going on in the back. Plus at that age I’m sure no one is really set in their position and an attacker could easily become a defender down the road.
I completely agree Eric. I think most of the videos are this way. Any coach can set up 4v1 rondos, but the way it’s broken down in the videos is amazing. Like they say, the little details are everything!!
January 9, 2014 at 10:39 am in reply to: Playing out of the back activity to fit 7v7/8v8 format #1428Quick question…I’ve never coached below the 11v11 game, how do you guys go about pressing? Do you incorporate a choreography like in the 4-3-3 ebook version? Assuming you play a 3-3-1 would you just have your striker force one direction and then shift your attacking mids towards that side?
The offensive choreography looks like an excellent conditioning exercise to me, while still teaching them tactical work. I think just the fact that Brian is always maintaining a high work rate that they really don’t need much conditioning without the ball.
I did this for my high school team and it seemed to help them a bit. I just grabbed some basic roles and responsibilities using the 4-3-3 off an internet search. Would like to hear what others have to say…
December 20, 2013 at 5:12 pm in reply to: How does this interact with individual skill development? #773Tom, looking forward to seeing your skills development program. We do a few skills camps over the winter at our high school and I’m always looking to improve it.
So glad to be a part of this. Been following the blog for quite some time and it seemed like every post just intrigued me more and more. I have been coaching high school boys soccer in the Midwest for the past 10 years. It has a been a challenge to say the least over the years, but we’ve also had some great success for a small town. We don’t have much of a feeder program so I first wanted to get things in order at the high school level with the other coaches, philosophy, etc. We are finally now getting involved with the youth program and hoping to change things there. They have no DOC and all teams are just run by parents of the players. Hoping to share a lot of ideas with them from 3four3 and others on this forum. It’s going to be a long journey, but I’m up to the challenge.
